The Hard-to-Replace Inside Sales Rep
Audit your job task by task, practice on a checked pipeline week, and own the deals the outreach tool cannot close
Who it's for
You sell business services by phone, email and video as an inside sales rep or sales development rep. You work the queue, run discovery calls and demos, quote inside the price book, keep the do-not-contact list honest and carry renewals to signature. An outreach tool in your CRM now writes, sends and updates records before you have read the work. You want to know which parts of your week still need you, and where to go next.

Will AI replace inside sales reps?
Government projections show this occupation still growing over the next ten years, and in the same tables they expect AI in the sales process to shrink the share of the work that reps do. This kit does not pretend either way. It is about owning what the tool cannot do on its own: the conversations, the rules and the release of each week's work. Audit your job task by task, show you can catch what the tool gets wrong, then plan your next step.

How the practice case works
The case is Week 41. Brindlewood Security Services sells alarm monitoring, video, access control and guard services to businesses in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri on monthly contracts priced per site, and it has 180 employees. You play Renata Villalobos, one of its nine inside sales reps in Tulsa, four years with the company and about 300 accounts in your territory. For a one-week trial, a new agent in the company's CRM worked your territory on its own. Its Pipeline Report says it produced 120 outreach messages across 48 accounts, qualified 40 inbound leads, updated 45 opportunities and drafted 12 quotes. It recommends that from October 19 it send, quote and update without your release, with you reading a weekly summary instead.
You test the report's twelve findings against nine sheets of synthetic data and ten sales rules. Each gets one verdict: Supported, Contradicted, Not established or Needs specialist review. Then you write an exceptions memo to your sales manager, copied to the VP of sales. It covers what must be stopped or undone today, every message, lead, quote, stage or close date to correct and your call on auto-send. The answer key grades all twelve: 7 Contradicted, 3 Supported, 1 Not established and 1 Needs specialist review.
By week 13
- A task map of your own week, with a Hand off, Pair, Own or Cut call on every task.
- A finished, checked exceptions memo you can show as a portfolio piece.
- Thirteen weekly sprints done, each with a kick-off and a review.
- A wins log, a review summary and a plan for the talk with your sales manager.
- Four moves scored and your runway counted in months of cover.
- Next steps to weigh, such as owning the weekly release in your current seat, account executive or field sales, customer success or renewals, sales operations, or revenue operations.
The honest part
The Bureau of Labor Statistics files this work under sales representatives of services, except advertising, insurance, financial services, and travel. It projects that occupation to grow from 1,272,700 jobs in 2025 to 1,306,700 in 2035, a gain of 33,900, or 2.7 percent, with about 115,700 openings a year and a median annual wage of $69,990. In the same tables, BLS says the share of sales representatives decreases as generative AI is integrated into the sales process. Both hold at once, and the e-book starts there. This kit does not promise that your seat stays. It promises no new job, quota, raise or promotion, and no guarantee comes with it. Nothing in it is certified. The case company, its CRM agent and its data are invented, so label your exceptions memo as simulated practice. The case grades the week against the company's own sales rules, not against law; questions of contract wording, permits or claims go to the specialist the brief names. The runway sums are for planning only, and nothing in this kit is legal, financial, tax or HR advice. Inside sales AI tools change fast. Use the prompts in prompts.docx only in tools your company has approved. Keep customer contact lists, contract terms, pricing, personal data, anything about a competitor and anything marked confidential out of every other tool.
